B&W 2013 (6) - Light of the World

Night scene in black and white seems a whole lot different. The light seems more obvious.

No matter how dark the night is, light will always overcome and shine forth.

Chinatown Photowalk

Catching on to quite a few street photographers’ inspirations, I have decided to do my own photowalk. The idea is just to walk around a certain vicinity and take some interesting shots with no particular theme in mind. This is of course another good way to hone my photography skills and to further train myself to be bolder in street photography, especially with people.

So my first destination is Chinatown. This place is always full of surprises, doesn’t matter how many times I have been there, every single visit brings different views and photography opportunities.

Walking from Cityhall direction, we will pass this bridge to enter into the CBD area and also the Chinatown section further up. No ERP needed if you are on foot.

The uniqueness of Singapore’s town urban planning, we get to see old buildings with skyscrapers not too far off.

It happened to be the Hungry Ghost Festival when I was there. Such altars are common with the Chinese, praying for blessings and protection.

People 2012 (9) - Angry Hawker

If you are in such situation, run! An angry hawker with his cleaver is not a man to be trifled with. Thank goodness I was standing behind a low wall and he is busy serving his customers.

People 2012 (8) - Young Footballer

Initially when he saw me with my camera squatting at one side waiting to shoot him, he was shy and retreated back to the indoors. But patience paid off, he came out again and willingly displayed his football skills for me.

People 2012 (7) - Street Performer

Street performers in Singapore requires a license to perform. But that did not deter people like this elderly uncle who was not there for the money, but purely for his love to sing.

People 2012 (5) - Sleeping Man

Sleep deprivation.

Reports have shown that 80,000 drivers fall asleep behind the wheel everyday.

A study found that sleep deprivation resulted in reduced cortisol secretion the next day, driven by increased subsequent slow-wave sleep. Sleep deprivation was found to enhance activity on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (which controls reactions to stress and regulates body functions such as digestion, the immune system, mood, sex, or energy usage) while suppressing growth hormones.

How long have you patronise your hair-stylist? I have known and patronise the same stylist for the past 13 years. Maybe one day we will be like these 3 men too.

People 2012 (2) - Kids In School

It’s the beginning of a new year and we have a lot of friends who are sending their son/daughter to school for the first time. It’s a stressful event for the first-timers, both parents & child. But yet for some, it’s another year of hard work and fun with other classmates.

The best work in life is studying.

Streets Of Bangkok

A recent trip to Bangkok Thailand showed me a few interesting ways how the locals supports themselves. We are very blessed in Singapore, we hardly see such people on the streets anymore.
